Retailers Adapt Tariff Identifiers
March 5, 2025
In light of the ongoing uncertainties regarding potential tariffs on U.S. products entering the Canadian market, national retailer Loblaw Companies Ltd. has introduced a new tariff symbol to make it easier for consumers to identify which grocery products are sourced from the U.S.
The new symbol features a “T” inside a triangle, along with “Product of: USA” to help consumers understand why the price of a product may have increased. While prices are not expected to rise immediately, but could increase in as little as one to two weeks. This change will be seen in all banners including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, Maxi and others.
Tariffs are currently expected to go into place as of April 2, 2025 unless an agreement can be reached. For a full list of HS codes of products imported from the United States which will be subject to 25 per cent tariffs, please visit the Canadian Government website
